Patricia L. Cookson

Patricia Cookson joined the firm in 2021 and concentrates her practice in tort liability defense and insurance coverage matters.


Ms. Cookson graduated in 1979 from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst with a Bachelor’s degree in economics. She minored in German and completed a summer program at the Universität of Freiburg, in Freiburg Germany. Ms. Cookson graduated Phi Beta Kappa. In 1983, Ms. Cookson graduated from the College of William and Mary Law School with a Juris Doctor degree. She was admitted to the Colorado Bar in 1984, and the Hawaii Bar in 2011.


Upon graduation from law school Ms. Cookson clerked for two state trial judges in the civil and criminal courts. She has private practice experience in the areas of construction, eminent domain, contracts, employment, real estate, business, and disability law. Ms. Cookson also served as a litigation attorney for the City and County of Denver Prosecutor’s office and the Colorado State Attorney General’s Office.


Ms. Cookson is a member of the Hawaii Bar Association. Previously, she was a member of the Colorado and Denver Bar Associations, and the Colorado Women’s Bar Association. Ms. Cookson served on the Board of Directors of the Colorado Women’s Bar Association for 10 years and was Chairman of the Legal Services Committee which was responsible in part for the establishment of a separate Restraining Order Court to provide for the swift adjudication of domestic violence matters. Ms. Cookson also served for several years as a Moot Court Judge for the statewide high school Moot Court competition.
