Richard F. Nakamura

Mr. Nakamura joined the firm in 1982. He practices primarily in the area of personal injury litigation, including products liability, auto liability, dram shop liability, premises liability, governmental liability, construction and employment-related liability (including sexual harassment, retaliation discrimination and employment disputes involving governmental liability). He also has experience in the field of real estate transactions, real estate development and related business matters. Mr. Nakamura became a partner with Ayabe, Chong, Nishimoto, Sia & Nakamura in 1987.

Education

Mr. Nakamura attended the University of Hawaii, Manoa Campus, where he received a B.B.A. degree from the College of Business Administration in 1973. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Santa Clara School of Law in 1976. Mr. Nakamura was admitted to the Hawaii Bar in 1976.

Experience

From August 1977 to June 1979, Mr. Nakamura served as the Administrative Assistant to the Honorable James Wakatsuki, then Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hawaii State Legislature. In June 1979, he joined the law firm of Robbins, Chu & Reilly, where he primarily was involved in real estate law. During the early part of 1981, Mr. Nakamura served as the attorney for the Democratic Party, House of Representatives, where he drafted and reviewed proposed legislation and advised the various House committees and their members.

Mr. Nakamura subsequently became a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney, Department of the Prosecuting Attorney, City and County of Honolulu, in 1981. In April 1982, he joined the firm as an associate.

Affiliations

Mr. Nakamura is presently a member of the Hawaii State Bar Association and the Association of Trial Attorneys of America.
